MONACO — A joint international manhunt is underway across Monaco and neighboring France after a makeshift bomb detonated in the heart of the ultra-wealthy Mediterranean principality on Monday night. The blast, which shattered the peace of the prominent billionaire haven, left several people seriously injured.
The improvised explosive device went off at approximately 9:00 PM local time (19:00 GMT) inside a residential building in central Monaco. Authorities confirmed that three individuals, including a teenager, sustained severe injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities.
An International Investigation
Because Monaco is completely surrounded by France on three sides, the Monegasque police are working in close, direct coordination with French federal authorities to seal off escape routes along the French Riviera.
While a motive has not yet been established, security forces have deployed heavily across the micro-state, implementing tight checkpoints and reviewing extensive closed-circuit television (CCTV) networks to identify the suspect.
