WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has issued a fierce ultimatum to American gasoline retailers, ordering them to slash fuel prices immediately or face severe consequences.
In a characteristically blunt post on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused retailers of illegal price gouging and set a strict nationwide target for what Americans should be paying at the pump.
“Gasoline Retailers must get their Prices down, IMMEDIATELY. There will be no gauging [sic], which is totally illegal. If Retailers don’t do this, big problems lie ahead! Start targeting around the $2.50 a Gallon number.”

The California Feud Reignites
While the directive was aimed nationally, Trump took particular aim at California, utilizing the opportunity to escalate his ongoing political feud with the state’s Democratic leadership over energy policy.
Trump heavily criticized California’s high state fuel taxes, warning that the tax burden would soon eclipse the actual cost of the fuel itself. He claimed the citizens of California are “being abused by these ridiculous Taxes, and by their own Government.”
